Anup Mondal

About


After completing school from Asansol Ramakrishna Mission High School, I obtained my B.Sc, (Chemistry Hons.), M.Sc.(Chemistry, Inorganic specialization) and Ph.D.(Science) degrees from IIT, Kharagpur. I then joined School of Energy Studies, Jadaavpur University as a Research Associate. Later, I went to Institute of Energy Conversion, University of Delaware, USA as a Post Doctoral Felow. After returning back, I again joined School of Energy Studies as a CSIR Pool Scientist. In 1996, I got selected as an Assistant Professor (Reader) at the Department of Chemistry, B.E.College (D.U.), which later got converted to IIEST, Shibpur.  Currently, I am a Professor of this Department.

Research Statement


  • Importance of the use of semiconductors in chemical research is increasing day by day, especially, as a photocatalyst. Semiconductor photocatalysis is currently one of the most emerging research topic. Semiconductors in nanoparticle or thin film form are extensively used nowadays in research for various photocatalytic and electrcatalytic applications like, cleaning of polluted water, e.g. degradation of hazardous dyes and other organic compounds and reduction of toxic metal ions. They are also the major component in photoelectrochemical solar cells and and photoelectrolysis of water.

  • Development of various thin film semiconductors using mostly chemical and electrochemical techniques
  • Use the developed semiconductors in various applications, e.g.

  • Gas sensing,
  • Photocatalysis.
