Dr. Shyamal Kumar Chattopadhyay, Professor (HAG)
I have done my B.Sc. with Chemistry Honours from St. Xavier’s College (1976-79), Calcutta, and M.Sc. (Chemistry) from the University of Calcutta with Inorganic Chemistry Specialization (1979-81). Thereafter, I did doctoral research at the Inorganic Chemistry Department of Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, under the mentorship of Prof. S. Ghosh and obtained my Ph.D. degree in 1988. I joined B. E. College in July 1989 and since then I have been a faculty of this institute, which has undergone transformations from a Govt. Engineering College to Deemed University (B. E. College (D.U.)), State University (BESU) and finally to IIEST, Shibpur.
My research interest is in the field of Coordination and Bioinorganic chemistry, particularly, the study of model complexes that mimic biocatalytic reactions, medicinal applications of metal complexes and metal complex based sensors for biomolecules.
During 2006-2007, I worked as a Brain Pool Research Fellow of Korea Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST) and worked at the Advanced Materials Division of Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology.
