Ambarish Ghosh

About


Dr. Ambarish Ghosh is a Professor and former Head at the Department of Civil Engineering of Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur. Prof. Ghosh did his Bachelor in Civil Engineering (First Class First) from North Bengal University in 1990, M. Tech. (SMFE) and Ph. D (Environmental Geotechnics) from IIT Kharagpur in 1992 and 1996. His primary research interest includes Geotechnical Engineering. Prof. Ghosh has published over 110 technical papers, conference proceedings and book chapters, and supervised 12 doctoral and 65 M. Tech. theses, besides guiding several projects at the undergraduate level. He is a regular reviewer of reputed national/international journals including Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, ASCE, Canadian Geotechnical Journal, Canada, Soils and Foundations, Japanese Geotechnical Society, Geotextiles and Geomembranes, Elsevier Publisher, UK, Journal of Geosynthetics International, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Elsevier Publisher, UK, Journal of Geotechnical and Geological Engineering, Springer Publisher, Netherlands and so on.

Prof. Ghosh is also active in research collaborations and has over 245 industrial and consultancy projects. Some of his major sponsored national projects include the prestigious Kolkata East-West Metro project undertaken as a part of the research collaboration between IIEST Shibpur and KMRCL (Govt. of India Undertaking), and major projects sponsored by reputed governmental administrative bodies including Ministry of Earth Science, DST (Govt. of India), Higher Education, Science & Technology and Biotechnology (Sci & Tech) (Govt. of West Bengal), Public Health Engg. Directorate (Govt. of W. B.),  and so on. His major international project on Development and Application of Potentially Important Jute Geo-textiles is sponsored by CFC, The Netherlands. Prof. Ghosh has delivered several notable invited guest lectures over the years and has acted as an external expert of faculty selection committee and technical expert committee member on various occasions. Prof. Ghosh is a Life Member of the Indian Geotechnical Society and Fellow of Institute of Engineers (I).
