About


Dr. Ashis Kumar Bera is an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering and Associate Dean (Planning and Development) of Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur. Dr. Ashis Kumar Bera did his Bachelor in Civil Engineering (First Class ) from Bengal Engineering College, A Deemed University in 1996, M. Tech. (SMFE) in 1998 and Ph.D (Engineering ) from Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur in 2005. His primary research interest includes Geotechnical Engineering. Dr. Ashis kumar Bera has published over 62 technical papers, conference proceedings and book chapters, and supervised 2 nos. doctoral and 42 M. Tech. theses, besides guiding several projects at the undergraduate level. He is a regular reviewer of reputed national/international journals including Journal of Ground Improvement technics, Thomas Telford,UK Journal of Geotechnical and Geological Engineering, Springer Publisher, Netherlands, Journal of Transportation Geotechnology Infrastructure, Springer and so on.

Dr. Ashis Kumar Bera is also active in research collaborations and has industrial and consultancy projects. Some of his major sponsored national projects include the prestigious Bank protection work for Gangway cum Pontoon Jetty at Shalimar Shiping Corporation Ltd; Testing and analysis of pond ash, bottom ash and steel plant slag material in ash dyke as substitute of sand; Inspection Of Vidyasagar Setu Along With Approach Viaducts & Interchanges’‘1829 mm (OD) MS transmission pipe line from intake works at Rani Debendrabala Ghat on River Hooghly to Water treatment Plant at New Town in Action Area – 1A for 100 MGD Transmission Capacity; The Design of the modified support system for the over ground 36 inch diameter crude Oil jetty Line at HBCPL, Haldia; Consolidated drained triaxial tests for Underground tunnel section of East West Metro of Calcutta, and so on. His major international project on Development and Application of Potentially Important Jute Geo-textiles is sponsored by CFC, The Netherlands.  Dr. Bera is a Life Member of the Indian Geotechnical Society.
