Niladri Das

About

Dr. Niladri Das has been working as an assistant professor in the Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Department, IIEST, Shibpur, since September 2023. He has completed his Ph.D. degree in the area of Information Theory and Coding from the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, IIT Guwahati, Guwahati. His research interests include blockchain, multi agent reinforcement learning, network coding, coded caching, networks, graph theory, and signal processing.

Before his PhD, he obtained his M.Tech in Signal Processing from the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, IIT Guwahati, Guwahati. Before that, he did his B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the College of Engineering and Management, Kolaghat (affiliated with the erstwhile West Bengal University of Technology). After his PhD, he worked as an SERB National Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Electrical Communication Engineering Department of IISc Bangalore. Thereafter, he worked as an Assistant Professor in the School of Electronics Engineering of VIT Vellore, Vellore campus, and subsequently as an Assistant Professor in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus. He has also worked at Cognizant Technology Solutions as an Associate Engineer.

Note to students seeking recommendation letters: You must meet me personally to request recommendation letters or to submit my name as a reference. There must be a gap of at least four working days from the date of the request and the deadline to submit the recommendation.

Research Statement

My research focuses on the Networking aspects of Communication Engineering. During my M.Tech, PhD, and Postdoc, my research primarily focused on Network Coding and its applications. I am currently interested in the following problems:

  1. Blockchain for IoT Communication. We consider a problem where IoT devices want to communicate with a base station and vice versa. In our model, an IoT device does not have a radio spectrum license; it uses an unlicensed spectrum to communicate with an intermediary that acts as a carrier between the IoT and the base station. A smart contract that enables any device to serve as an intermediary and get paid for delivering messages. Additionally, we investigate physical layer aspects of communication between the IoT and intermediary and address attacks like Denial-of-Service and Man-In-The-Middle.
  2. Memory Layer for Blockchain.
  3. Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL). More specifically, we are interested in the communication between agents in MARL.
