Debashis Pal

About


Dr. Debashis Pal is an Assistant Professor (Gr - I) of Aerospace Engineering and Applied Mechanics Department at Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur. After the completion of Masters Degree at IISc Bangalore, he joined the R & D Centre of Fluent India Pvt. Ltd., Pune in 2003 and worked there as an Application Engineer for five years. During his industrial appointment, he gained experience in the area of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), rotating-machinery, Volume of Fluid (VOF) modelling and compressible flow. Previously, Dr. Pal had worked in TATA Motors, Jamshedpur for one year (from July, 2000 to July, 2001). He was awarded with University Gold Medal (in 2000 at Jadavpur University) and S V Sastry Memorial Medal (in 2003 at IISc Bangalore) for exemplary performances in undergraduate and postgraduate studies, respectively. He has supervised more than 10 Master's thesis so far.

Research Statement


Dr Pal's area of specialization is Fluid and Thermal science. His current research interest includes Micro- and nano-scale transport phenomena, CFD, Unconventional pumping, Mixing and Dispersion in microfluidic devices.

    This laboratory conducts practical classes (experiments) for UG / B. Tech. students of Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil and Mining Enginnering. In addition, various experiments of an M. Tech. course for Mechanics of Fluid specialization is conducted here.

    Responsibility includes maintainance of all the experimental set-ups for UG and PG level experiments, purchase of new set-up, maitenance of the building along with all supporting accessories (electrical and hydraulic).
