Born in Calcutta on 2nd July 1968, Parthasarathi did his schooling in St. Lawrence High School from 1974 to 1987. After graduating in Architecture in 1992 from Jadavpur University, he continued in the same institute to complete Masters in Architecture in 1996 with specialization in Urban Design. Later he received Ph.D. from IIEST Shibpur in 2014, where he is presently serving as a Professor in the Department of Architecture, Town and Regional Planning. Earlier, he taught in the Govt. Polytechnics of West Bengal, where one of his major responsibilities included up-gradation of state diploma educational system from annual to semester mode.
A Fellow of the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), Prof. Mukhopadhyay has 41 publications and an Indian patents to his credit. He has undertaken more than 30 research supervision at doctoral, masters and bachelors levels, 10 research/ consultancy projects, reviewed a number of international journals; and has delivered invited lectures in a number of national/ international seminars. Prof. Mukhopadhyay’s areas of research interest include among others Bamboo as a Design Element, Disaster Resistant Architecture, Rapid Visual Screening, Energy Conservation in Buildings, Urban Design, Theory of Architecture etc. He has been recognized as a State Resource Person under National Programme for Capacity Building of Architects in Earthquake Risk Management (NPCBAERM) launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India in 2006 and is involved in dissemination of related knowledge since then.
He is co-innovator of ‘Low Bamboo-Energy Bamboo Concrete Flooring’, which was one of the Top 7 entries in Lafarge Invention Awards 2011. Subsequently, as co-inventor of ‘Engineered Bamboo Houses: A cost-effective low-embodied energy disaster-resistant solution’, he was selected as one of the Top 50 Innovators under DST-Lockheed Martin India Innovation Growth Programme 2013. Since 2016, he has been elected as an Alternate Member of the Panel for Timber and Bamboo under NBC, India.
Elected as a Fellow of the Indian Institute of Architects by the Council of the Institute on January 7, 2011.
Electred as an Associate of the Institute of Urban Designers India by the Council of the Institute in 2009.
