Hi, I am Dr. Nirnay Ghosh, currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Technology (CST), under the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology Shibpur (IIESTS). I joined here in March 2019.
Prior to this, I was a research fellow in the Research & Security Innovation Lab for IoT (ReSILIoT) under the iTrust Research Center for Cyber Security, Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). I worked under the mentorship of Prof. Yuval Elovici and primarily worked on privacy and access control issues related to IoT systems.
Even before that, I was a visiting faculty at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Kalyani, India for one semester (Spring 2018). I designed the syllabus and taught a course on "Discrete Mathematics" to BTech 2nd year students of Computer Science and Engineering (Strength: 96).
I have also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (MST), Rolla, USA. At MST, I worked under the mentorship of Prof. Sajal K Das and was a part of the CReWMaN research group from April 2016 to August 2017. During postdoc, my research area was participatory sensing with application in urban computing. Particularly, I looked into the issue of estimation of the quality of information and modeling of user reputation to address the gamification problem in mobile crowdsensing applications.
I completed my masters (MS-by research) and Ph.D. from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Kharagpur, under the supervision of Prof. Soumya K Ghosh, in the years 2010 and 2016, respectively. During masters, my broad area of research was the generation of attack graphs using AI technique, modeling network attack using the attack graphs, and finding optimal attack paths using custom security metrics. In Ph.D., I looked into security aspects of cloud computing, particularly in choosing optimal cloud service providers for business offloading and also securing multi-party collaborations in a cloud environment.
Till now, I have published nine papers in reputed journals and transactions, two book chapters, and 20 papers in the proceedings of international conferences and workshops. I have also worked in two sponsored projects undertaken by IIT Kharagpur in course of my master's and Ph.D. The nature of duties in those projects was conducting research on network security vulnerabilities, development of a penetration testing tool for security analysis, and design and develop an attack graph-based security assessment tool for the enterprise LANs. I was also a recipient of the TCS Research fellowship and was awarded the best paper award in IEEE ADCOM 2012.
