Amal Barman

About


Amal Barman was born in Balurghat, India. He earned his Bachelor's (B.E.E.) and Master's (M.E.E.) degrees in electrical engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, in 1993 and 1996, respectively. He successfully completed his Ph.D. in the Computer Science and Technology Department at IIEST, Shibpur, in 2024. The title of his thesis is "Integration and Information Exchange of Heterogeneous Sources Using Directory Service and a Graph-Based Approach." His areas of interest include high-performance computation in electrical engineering and Open Source Software.

After a brief stint in ERLDC, Powergrid Corporation of India Limited, he joined the faculty of Electrical Engineering, Bengal Engineering College, Deemed University (now Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur), Howrah, West Bengal, India in 1998. He is currently working as an Associate Professor there.
Prof. Barman is a Fellow (Life) of Indian Society of Lighting Engineers, Life Member of Institute of Engineers (India), Member of ACM and Member of IEEE.

Research Statement:

   My research in HPC focuses on the development of advanced techniques, algorithms, and architectures aimed at maximizing the performance of computational systems. By exploring novel approaches to parallel computing and optimization, I strive to enable computers to tackle complex problems efficiently, thereby pushing the boundaries of computational capabilities.

2. Artificial Intelligence (AI):
   Within the domain of AI, my research endeavors revolve around the design and implementation of intelligent algorithms and systems. By leveraging machine learning, deep learning, and cognitive modeling techniques, I aim to develop AI solutions capable of performing tasks that traditionally require human intelligence, such as reasoning, learning, perception, and problem-solving.

3. LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol):
   In the field of LDAP, my research explores various aspects of directory services, authentication mechanisms, and security protocols. Through the development of optimization techniques and innovative approaches to managing directory information, I seek to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and security of LDAP-based systems.

4. Open Source Software:
