Sunny Murmu

About


I am a mining engineering professional with an academic and industrial background, combining expertise in underground coal mining, geotechnical engineering, and computational geomechanics. After earning my B.Tech in Mining Engineering from BIT Sindri (2014) and gaining hands-on industry experience at Lafarge Umiam Mining Pvt. Ltd. in mine planning and equipment scheduling, I pursued advanced research through an M.Tech in Geotechnical Engineering from IIT Roorkee (2017) and a Ph.D. in Mining Engineering from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad (2023).

My research spans rock engineering, blasting technology, probabilistic analysis in geomechanics, computational geomechanics, underground coal mining and ground control in underground mining. I have been engaged in academia since 2022, with teaching and research roles at NIT Raipur and currently as Assistant Professor in the Department of Mining Engineering, IIEST Shibpur (July 2025). I am passionate about integrating research with practical mining solutions, fostering innovation in the field, and mentoring the next generation of mining engineers.
