The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIEST, Shibpur hosted a Faculty Development Programme, _Translation as Dialogue: Creative License, Crossovers and Current Developments_, from 16 – 22 September 2025. The five-day programme featured distinguished voices including Mr. V. Ramaswamy, Dr. Mrinmoy Pramanick, Dr. Ritam Mukhopadhyay, Dr. Baran Farooqi, Mr. Biplab Nayak, and many others. The sessions highlighted translation as resistance, rewriting, and as a bridge between cultures, where discussions ranged from documenting endangered languages like the Toto language to exploring India–France exchanges, Urdu literary aesthetics, and Indic oral traditions. The FDP concluded with a special cultural session by renowned singer Mr. Prabuddha Raha, who reflected on the therapeutic power of music and the challenges of translating Tagore’s songs.
