The ForamLab at the Department of Earth Sciences, IIEST Shibpur, focuses on understanding the dynamic interactions between climate, environment, and life through geological time. The lab integrates field geology, sedimentology, micropaleontology, and geochemical analyses to reconstruct past climates and assess present-day environmental change. Current research emphasizes foraminiferal bio-monitoring along the Indian coast, and paleoclimatic studies of PETM–EOT sections from Meghalaya to decipher global and regional climate transitions. The lab also encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and hands-on learning, nurturing young researchers to develop innovative approaches in Earth and environmental sciences.
