Metal & Steel Factory, Ishapore (MSF) has been the cradle of military-metallurgy in India. MSF is the main producer of basic Ferrous and Non-Ferrous raw materials for military hardware. Present day military hardware requires the use of alloy steel of Super-ultra clean quality. MSF has facilities for state-of-the-art steel making in the form of Electric Arc Furnace, Ladle Furnace Vacuum Degassing and Electro Slag Refining – ensuring the production of Ultra clean steel. MSF has several other high-end production expertise and facilities. MSF is situated in West Bengal on the Eastern Bank of River Hoogly (Ganga) at a distance of 28 KM from Kolkata. MSF has also taken initiatives under 'Make in India,' a visionary programme launched by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, to make India self-reliant through the successful development of Steel Cartridge Cases of 20 mm AMR, 14.5 mm BZT Ammunition, for Rudra Automatic Grenade System (AGS-17), 12 mm rods for 12.7 mm Armor-Piercing Incendiary Tracer (API/APIT) Ammunition and 60 mm dia Special Steel round for 'MANGO' project. Besides being a Metallurgical Unit (an esteemed Defence Installation) of the Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India, this Establishment has ample facilities of Hands-on Training, Practical Field Workshops and Industrial Projects for Metallurgical and Mechanical students who are undergoing engineering and students already graduated in Metallurgical and Mechanical disciplines. These workshops and training will likely bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and its application in heavy/medium industries like Defence Installation.
