Research Area

Topic: Role of crystallographic texture on the development of microstructure and mechanical properties during stir casting of some Magnesium based alloys

Crystallographic texture, Magnesium alloys, Microstructure

The influence of crystallographic texture on the mechanical properties and microstructure of AZ91D alloy reinforced with Titanium Diboride (TiB2) (both nano and micro addition) has been investigated. An addition of graphene nano-powders has also been made during the stir casting process to enhance the mechanical properties of the composites. Varying wt% of TiB2 particles are used to fabricate the metal matrix composites through the bottom pouring stir casting method. Basic characterizations of the fabricated composites are planned to be performed by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), optical microscope and Electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD).
