Versatile Video Coding (VVC) offers a large bitrate decrease over earlier standards, but at the expense of greater computational complexity, which makes this improvement essential. The development of specialized hardware architectures to speed up the computationally demanding encoding and decoding procedures of the VVC standard is the main goal of hardware optimization for VVC. This allows for real-time performance for high-resolution video and a variety of applications, including streaming and virtual reality/augmented reality.
